Actor and Hindupur MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna has agreed to hand over 862.77 square yards of land belonging to his house to facilitate road-widening works around Kasu Brahmananda Reddy (KBR) Park in Hyderabad. The move is part of efforts to ease traffic congestion and make the one-way traffic system, which was implemented on a trial basis around the park, permanent. The widening project aims to improve vehicle movement and remove bottlenecks. Once completed, it is expected to make travel from Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills towards Durgam Cheruvu Cable Bridge and Knowledge City more convenient.
Balakrishna’s father, former Chief Minister N. T. Rama Rao, built the house in 1982 and gave it to his son. With a significant portion of the property expected to be affected by the road expansion, Balakrishna is preparing to move elsewhere. Other contributors include Shabdhalaya Studios, which has offered 608 square yards, and Bhavya Constructions, which has offered 341.33 square yards for related road works. The parties are reported to have opted for the Transferable Development Rights (TDR) mechanism instead of cash compensation. Meanwhile, construction is progressing on a 4.3-kilometre steel flyover from Mufakkam Jah College to Jubilee Hills Check Post at an estimated cost of ₹1,090 crore. These projects are aimed at improving traffic flow around KBR Park and nearby routes.
