Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Verma Faces Controversy After Allegedly Slapping Youth During Road Inspection

Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Verma has been embroiled in a political controversy after a video appeared to show him slapping a young man during a road inspection in west Delhi’s Tilak Nagar. The video of the incident went viral on social media, intensifying the controversy.

Verma had visited the Tilak Nagar constituency on Sunday to inspect a newly laid road. Local AAP MLA Jarnail Singh and some residents pointed out that the quality of the road was poor, claiming that portions of the surface could be pulled up by hand. During the inspection, Sahib Singh, who handles the MLA’s social media activities, began recording the proceedings on his phone. Verma then pulled down his phone and appeared to slap him across the face. Security personnel immediately intervened and separated the two.

Sahib Singh later filed a police complaint over the incident. He alleged that the minister assaulted him while he was recording the poor condition of the road and also accused the minister’s security personnel and BJP workers of threatening him. Police have received complaints from both sides and are verifying the facts and circumstances of the incident.

AAP leaders and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal shared the video on social media and demanded action against Verma. Meanwhile, Verma defended his actions, claiming that AAP workers at the site had used abusive language against his family and that he reacted in anger. He also alleged that local MLA Jarnail Singh was pressuring a contractor for commissions and claimed that a PWD engineer was prepared to file a complaint over the matter. These allegations have further intensified the verbal confrontation between the AAP and BJP.
