

Andhra Pradesh Sports and Transport Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy said the state government is taking several initiatives to strengthen the sports sector. A stadium and indoor sports hall were built in Vizianagaram at a cost of ₹6 crore, while an indoor sports complex worth ₹5 crore was constructed at Padmavathi Women's University in Tirupati. Athletics tracks have also become operational at Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium in Vijayawada.
The minister stated that incentives worth ₹14.58 crore were distributed to 399 international athletes, while 618 sportspersons received cash rewards worth ₹7.72 crore. A total of 1,226 athletes benefited through the sports quota in 2024-25 and 615 athletes in 2025-26. Reservation for sportspersons in government jobs has been increased from 2 percent to 3 percent.
Training programs are being conducted in 31 sports disciplines across the state. The government aims to establish 1,393 coaching camps by 2026 and is currently training more than 49,000 athletes. The minister clarified that 382 posts were allotted to sportspersons in the Mega DSC recruitment based on eligibility.
