Alliance Government Extends Support to Weavers

The state government has stepped up its support for handloom weavers by launching a new welfare initiative. Already providing free electricity, subsidies, and pensions at the age of 50, the government has now introduced the ‘Nethanna Sevalo’ scheme to further strengthen the livelihoods of weaver families. Under this scheme, ₹25,000 will be directly credited to each eligible weaver family. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will formally launch the scheme on the occasion of the 12th National Handloom Day on the 7th.

The scheme is expected to benefit 71,536 weaver families across the state, with a total outlay of ₹179 crore. Notably, this initiative was not part of the election manifesto but has been introduced to safeguard the welfare and traditional occupation of weavers. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister will tour Chirala constituency, visiting Kothapeta village in Vetapalem mandal, addressing a public meeting, and later interacting with beneficiaries at a handloom workshop in Jandrapeta.
