

The Central Government has revealed that Andhra Pradesh has emerged as the state with the highest borrowings in the country. During the first three months of the 2025–26 financial year, the Andhra Pradesh government borrowed ₹26,572 crore, making it the state with the highest level of borrowing during that period. This information was disclosed by Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary in response to a written question raised by YSRCP MP Golla Baburao in the Rajya Sabha.
The minister further stated that the state government borrowed ₹17,600 crore in the second quarter and ₹11,900 crore in the third quarter of the 2025–26 financial year. As a result, the total borrowings of the state in the first nine months reached ₹56,072 crore. The Centre also noted that a significant portion of these funds was raised through open market borrowings and that some of the new loans were taken to repay existing debts.
