Open AI launched Prism on Tuesday, a free, cloud-based workspace designed to simplify scientific writing, collaboration, and research workflows. The platform integrates OpenAI’s advanced reasoning model GPT 5.2 directly into drafting and editing scientific documents. It combines LaTeX editing, literature search, and real-time collaboration in a single AI native workspace.
Traditionally, researchers have to switch between multiple tools like word processors, PDF readers, LaTeX compilers, reference managers, and chat interfaces. OpenAI notes that this leads to siloed information and loss of context. Prism unifies all these processes in one environment, allowing drafting, revision, citation management, and collaboration without flipping between separate apps.
Prism supports real time collaboration, enabling multiple researchers to work on a document simultaneously, with changes, comments, and edits synchronized in the cloud. The platform is currently free for users with personal ChatGPT accounts and will be extended to Business, Enterprise, and Education plans in the future.
