OpenAI has introduced Dots, a new line of always-on personal AI agents designed to take responsibility for tasks ranging from everyday activities such as booking restaurant reservations to complex, multi-step business processes such as invoicing. The company unveiled Dots at its annual developers’ conference on September 29, describing them as AI agents that can continuously work toward user-defined goals. Dots are powered by GPT-6 Astra and operate on their own cloud computers with dedicated browsers and access to connected tools. OpenAI
Dots can connect with selected apps and continue working after a task has been assigned. Users can interact with them through ChatGPT, while OpenAI says the agents can maintain context across different channels and continue projects across services such as email and Slack. When they are not actively carrying out a task, Dots can perform read-only background research. OpenAI is initially rolling out Dots to eligible Pro users and selected business customers, with enterprise access also being introduced. The company is positioning Dots as a new generation of personal and workplace AI agents capable of handling ongoing responsibilities with less manual supervision.
