Shreyas Iyer produced a memorable performance against West Indies by scoring his maiden international T20 century. Batting during the chase, Iyer attacked the bowlers confidently and remained unbeaten on 102 off just 43 balls, hitting 10 fours and four sixes. The century came after Iyer had been working on aspects of his batting technique with former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar.
After returning from the Asian Games, Iyer reportedly felt that his technique was not allowing him to generate enough power while hitting the ball. Nayar visited Iyer at his home and spent around two hours working with him on his grip and bat movement. Nayar explained that technical changes require practice and advised Iyer to respond to the ball rather than make decisions before it is bowled. Iyer also acknowledged that his conversation with Nayar helped him feel better and influenced the way he approached the West Indies match. Nayar had previously worked with players such as Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul and served as part of India’s coaching staff.
