On-Field Spat Costs Jaiswal and Fernando 25% Match Fee

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Asitha Fernando have been fined 25% of their match fees following their heated confrontation during the first day of the second Test between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo. The International Cricket Council said both players breached Level 1 of its Code of Conduct and were each handed one demerit point.

The incident occurred during India’s first innings after Jaiswal was dismissed in the 17th over. As Sri Lanka celebrated the wicket, Fernando allegedly made comments towards Jaiswal as the Indian batter walked towards the dressing room. The exchange escalated, with the two players moving towards each other before teammates intervened. Both players accepted the charge and the proposed sanction, avoiding the need for a formal hearing. The incident was treated as a breach under Article 2.12, which covers inappropriate physical contact or conduct during an international match. As this was the first offence for both players in the previous 24 months, the sanctions remained at Level 1.
