Pakistan batter Babar Azam has surpassed “King” Virat Kohli. In the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026, Babar Azam is leading Peshawar Zalmi as captain. During the match against Karachi Kings, he created history in T20 cricket by becoming the fastest player to reach 12,000 runs, achieving the milestone in just 338 innings.
This is Babar’s 351st match, and reaching this record in such a few innings is a remarkable achievement. The previous record was held by West Indies legend Chris Gayle (343 innings), while India’s star Virat Kohli stands third with 360 innings. Babar Azam has now become the second Pakistani batter to reach this milestone. Notably, Shoaib Malik still holds the record for the highest T20 runs for Pakistan.
In the match, opening the innings, Babar Azam remained unbeaten with 87 runs off 51 balls, hitting 10 fours and 2 sixes. He also built a massive 191-run partnership for the second wicket with Kushal Mendis. Thanks to this performance, Peshawar Zalmi posted a huge total of 246/3 in 20 overs. Chasing a target of 247, Karachi Kings collapsed under the pressure of Peshawar’s bowling attack. Iftikhar Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, and Sufiyan Muqeem each took three wickets, dismantling the opposition. As a result, Karachi Kings were bowled out for just 87 runs, giving Peshawar Zalmi a dominant victory.
