Abhishek Sharma Sets Unwanted Duck Record

India’s explosive opener Abhishek Sharma has registered an unwanted record in T20 cricket. He has become the first player to be dismissed for a duck 10 times in a single calendar year in T20 cricket. Sharma reached the mark after being dismissed off the first ball against Japan in a historic T20 match, resulting in a golden duck. Afghanistan star Rashid Khan had previously recorded nine ducks in 2019, while Pakistan’s Shadab Khan also registered nine ducks in 2024.

Ducks have also been a recurring issue for Sharma in T20 internationals this year. His golden duck against Japan took his tally of T20I ducks in 2026 to seven. He is now among the players with the most T20I ducks in a calendar year, alongside Rwanda’s Zappy Bimenyimana and Orchide Tuyisenge and Pakistan batter Saim Ayub, who have also recorded seven ducks.
