Vladimir Putin is set to visit India once again to participate in the upcoming BRICS Summit scheduled to be held in New Delhi on September 12 and 13. India is hosting this year’s BRICS summit as the chair nation, and Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov confirmed Putin’s participation. Notably, this will be Putin’s second visit to India within a span of six months, following his visit in December last year for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit.
The BRICS alliance initially consisted of Brazil, Russia, India, and China before South Africa joined the bloc, leading to the formation of BRICS. Over the years, the grouping expanded into BRICS Plus with the inclusion of countries such as Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt, UAE, and Indonesia, while Saudi Arabia and Argentina are also expected to join soon. During the recent BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Delhi, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss key bilateral and global issues ahead of the summit.
