Uttam Kumar Reddy Questions Election Roll Revision, Seeks Transparency

Telangana Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy has criticised the issues reported in the ongoing debate over electoral-roll revision and questioned the need for greater transparency in the Election Commission’s functioning. He argued that public confidence in the electoral process depends on the independence and credibility of the poll panel. His remarks come amid reports that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi recorded objections on several decisions over the past 10 months. The Election Commission has maintained that decisions, including those related to the Special Intensive Revision, were approved unanimously.

Reddy also referred to the reported Goa case, where 97 voters were found eligible by Electoral Registration Officers but were left out of the final roll after the software reportedly did not provide a mechanism to reverse earlier deletions. The Election Commission has explained that its ECINet system did not have a rollback provision, while the Goa Chief Electoral Officer later said the affected voters were being covered through subsequent enrolment measures. Reddy also raised concerns about the large number of appeals arising from voter-roll revisions in West Bengal and called for accountability and transparency.
