Mehrotra’s Sensational Remarks on BJP MLAs

Samajwadi Party leader Ravidas Mehrotra has claimed that several BJP MLAs are in contact with the SP ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh. According to reports, Mehrotra said the SP is considering contesting a third seat, citing what he described as discontent within the BJP. However, the claim that BJP legislators are in contact with the SP has not been independently established in the reports reviewed.

The Election Commission has scheduled polling for 10 Rajya Sabha seats from Uttar Pradesh on October 16. The state Assembly currently has an effective strength of 397, and each candidate requires at least 37 first-preference votes to be elected. Recent reports put the BJP-led NDA at 289 MLAs and the SP-led bloc at 103, making additional support and possible cross-voting a key factor in the contest for the remaining seat.
