Andhra Pradesh is set to witness a major change in its political map by the 2029 elections, with a proposed delimitation exercise expected to significantly increase both Assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies. As per the plan, Assembly seats are likely to rise from 175 to 263, while Lok Sabha seats may increase from 25 to 38. The central government is expected to introduce bills related to delimitation and women’s reservation in Parliament on the 16th of this month.
The proposed restructuring aims to increase Assembly constituencies by nearly 50%, with proportional expansion in Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe reserved seats as well. Of the total Assembly seats, 87 are expected to be reserved for women, while 13 Lok Sabha seats from Andhra Pradesh may also be allocated to women under the reservation framework.
After parliamentary approval, a Delimitation Commission will be formed to finalize the process. The revised constituencies are expected to be in place for the 2029 elections. The restructuring is also expected to improve administrative efficiency and bring governance closer to the people.
