Chirag Paswan Questions Opposition’s SIR Criticism

Union Minister Chirag Paswan has questioned the Opposition’s criticism of the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Referring to the concerns raised by Opposition parties over the poll panel’s functioning, Paswan asked how Congress leaders were continuing to win elections if the electoral process was fundamentally flawed. He specifically referred to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s election victory and the formation of Congress governments in Kerala and Himachal Pradesh as examples in his argument.

Paswan’s remarks come amid a continuing political dispute over the SIR exercise and reports of differences among Election Commissioners. The ECI has said that written observations, questions and differing views are a normal part of institutional deliberations and do not necessarily represent final decisions. The Commission has maintained that its major decisions, including those related to SIR, were ultimately approved unanimously by the full three-member panel.
