Awarapan 2 Arrives on OTT With Little Buzz After Box Office Success

Some films arrive in theatres without huge expectations but go on to surprise audiences with their box-office performance. Awarapan 2 is one such film. The sequel to Emraan Hashmi’s 2007 film Awarapan was released in theatres on August 14 and reportedly achieved a strong commercial run. Made on a reported budget of Rs 45 crore, the film is said to have collected around Rs 213 crore at the box office. The movie has now quietly made its OTT debut on Amazon Prime Video through a rental model. It is currently available only in Hindi, while a free streaming release may follow later.

The story follows Shivam Pandit, played by Emraan Hashmi, who continues to struggle with the memories of Alia Hamid, whose death deeply affected him. On her birthday, Shivam visits her grave and discovers an abandoned baby nearby. He names the child Alia and places her in an orphanage, continuing to look after her. Ten years later, Alia is adopted by a couple, but their lives change when unidentified men murder the couple and abduct the girl. Alia and several other children are taken to Bangkok. Interpol officer Samrat asks Shivam to help because the authorities cannot officially pursue the kidnappers. The rest of the film follows Shivam’s dangerous journey to Bangkok and his efforts to rescue Alia.
