Today, India solemnly commemorates the death anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. On January 30, 1948, during a prayer meeting at Birla House in Delhi (now Gandhi Smriti), Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated by Nathuram Godse. This day is observed across the country as Martyrs’ Day, honoring those who laid down their lives for the nation.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. He stated on social media platform X, “On the death anniversary of the Father of the Nation, I pay my heartfelt tributes to him. Revered Bapu always emphasized self-reliance. This remains the cornerstone of our resolve for a developed and self-sufficient India. His personality and achievements continue to inspire us.” Martyrs’ Day also serves as a moment to remember all those who sacrificed their lives during India’s freedom struggle. This year marks the 78th death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, and various programs are being held nationwide, including official tributes and prayer services at Raj Ghat.
Mahatma Gandhi’s life was guided by principles of non-violence, Satyagraha, Swadeshi and Sarvodaya. By uttering “Hey Ram” at the moment of his death, he left behind ideals that continue to guide the world toward peace and equality. His path remains a beacon for the future of the nation.
