The Andhra Pradesh state cabinet has taken a crucial decision regarding the reorganization of districts. The formation of two new districts, Polavaram and Markapuram, was approved in the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. At the same time, it was decided to retain Annamayya district but shift the district headquarters from Rayachoti to Madanapalle. The Rajampet constituency will be merged into YSR Kadapa district, and Railway Kodur into Tirupati district. The Rayachoti constituency will remain in Annamayya district.
As part of this reorganization, five new revenue divisions will be created, and the Adoni mandal in Kurnool district will be divided into two. The village of Penugonda in West Godavari district will be renamed "Vasavi Penugonda". Three mandals from the Gudur constituency will be merged into Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore district, and the Kandukur and Addanki constituencies will be included in Prakasam district. The final notification regarding these changes will be released on the 31st of this month, and the new administrative setup will come into effect from January 1st. With this, the number of districts in the state will increase from 26 to 28.
