Was ‘Spider-Man’ the Reason Behind ‘Newton’s 3rd Law’ Failure?

Newton’s 3rd Law, the Telugu thriller starring Sumanth, failed to make a strong impact at the box office but reportedly received a better response after its arrival on Netflix. The film’s producer, Harish Kohikar, recently spoke about its theatrical performance during the promotional campaign for his upcoming web film Balu Geetha. He said that the team had made the film with the intention of reaching a wider audience but did not receive the appreciation they had expected in theatres. According to him, the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day during the same period dealt a major blow to their film, as it attracted a largely urban audience.

Harish Kohikar also pointed out that a large number of films are released every week, making theatrical competition increasingly challenging. He said this was one of the reasons the team chose the OTT route for Balu Geetha. The web film features Jagapathi Babu, Srinivas Avasarala, Neha Pathan, Trinadh Varma, Shelly N Kumar and Ravi Varma in important roles. Written and directed by Rajesh Karna, the project is produced by Mark My Words Entertainments, Celestial Art Studio and VFX Shashwat.
