Remove Those Scenes from the Film.. AP Teachers Demand Action on ‘Irumudi’

The Andhra Pradesh Teachers’ Federation has objected to scenes in the film ‘Irumudi’, alleging that they portray government schools and teachers in a derogatory manner. Federation president Chennupathi Manjula and general secretary Basavalingarao urged the filmmakers to remove the objectionable portions. They said cinema is a powerful medium that influences society and filmmakers should exercise social responsibility while portraying government schools, teachers and students.

The federation alleged that the government school teacher character in ‘Irumudi’ has been portrayed in an extremely negative manner. According to the representatives, the school shown in the film appears to be associated with the Zilla Parishad school in Seeleru, Alluri Sitharama Raju district, while the uniforms worn by the students resemble those currently used in government schools. They said such a portrayal could adversely affect the image of the teaching profession and the government school education system, and called for the removal of the concerned scenes.
