The Central Government has directed the removal of the film Satluj from OTT platforms under the Information Technology Rules, 2021, citing concerns related to safety and responsible content, according to official sources. The move has triggered widespread discussion on social media.
Several political parties in Punjab and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) have opposed the decision and demanded that the film be made available to viewers. Actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh also urged audiences to watch the film wherever it is legally accessible.
The film, based on the life of Punjab human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, had earlier faced scrutiny from the CBFC, which reportedly suggested 127 cuts and recommended changing its original title, Punjab 95. The makers approached the court, arguing that the changes would affect the film's original narrative. The film was released on OTT on July 3 before the latest directive.
