Diabetes cases are rising rapidly today. A condition once seen mostly in adults and the elderly is now affecting young children as well. Developing diabetes at a young age can lead to serious health complications in the future. Hence, parents must understand the causes, symptoms, and preventive measures.
Many children prefer pizza, burgers, chips, chocolates, soft drinks, and packaged juices. These foods contain high sugar and unhealthy fats that weaken insulin function, raising blood sugar levels and increasing diabetes risk.
Children today spend more time on mobiles, TV, and video games. Low physical activity leads to fat accumulation, reducing insulin sensitivity and increasing diabetes risk.
Overweight children are at a higher risk. Excess body fat reduces insulin effectiveness. Lack of sleep, excessive screen time, and academic pressure are additional contributing factors.
Reduce junk food consumption.
Ensure kids play or exercise for at least 1–2 hours a day.
Also ensure children get adequate sleep.
Set limits on mobile, TV, and gaming device usage.
If diabetes runs in the family, schedule regular health checkups for children.
Building healthy habits early in life protects children from diabetes and other lifestyle diseases.
