Blueberries have recently been widely promoted as a “premium superfood.” However, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Manan Vora has shared several important facts on this topic. In a video posted on social media, he explained that guava, which is commonly available and affordable, offers greater nutritional benefits compared to expensive blueberries. Dr. Vora emphasized that attractive packaging and high prices do not necessarily indicate superior nutritional value.
According to Dr. Vora, consuming guava priced at around ₹100 per kilogram is far more beneficial for health than eating blueberries that cost up to ₹2,000 per kilogram. Guava contains nearly 20 times more vitamin C than blueberries, which plays a crucial role in boosting immunity and improving skin health. Additionally, guava is rich in dietary fiber, which aids digestion, helps regulate blood sugar levels and supports weight management.
While blueberries contain unique antioxidants that contribute to heart health and help reduce inflammation, Dr. Vora noted that guava is a better choice for everyday consumption. Guava provides higher amounts of essential vitamins, minerals and fiber, supports digestive health and blood sugar control and is widely available at an affordable price. Therefore, he recommends choosing guava over costly blueberries for overall health benefits.
