Drinking water on an empty stomach immediately after waking up is considered a healthy habit. After a full night’s sleep, the body tends to become mildly dehydrated. Consuming water at that time helps rehydrate the body and restore alertness. However, many people are unsure about the right quantity of water to drink in the morning and may consume excessive amounts at once. According to experts, this is not the correct approach.
Generally, drinking one to two glasses of water on an empty stomach in the morning is sufficient. It is advisable to sip the water slowly rather than drinking it quickly in one go. This allows the body to absorb the water more effectively. Consuming a large amount of water at once may put pressure on the stomach and potentially cause indigestion or discomfort.
It is also recommended to drink lukewarm or room-temperature water instead of very cold water. This helps naturally restore the body’s hydration levels. Developing the habit of drinking water in the morning can boost metabolism, activate the digestive system, provide energy, reduce sluggishness and encourage adequate hydration throughout the day.
