Venkat Reddy to Drive Khairatabad Ganesh’s Tusker

Khairatabad is synonymous with its massive Ganesh idol, which attracts lakhs of devotees during the Ganesh festival. On immersion day, the idol is taken in a grand procession towards Tank Bund on a heavy truck, known as a Tusker. Driving the vehicle safely through the massive gathering of devotees requires considerable skill and experience. Among the experienced drivers entrusted with this responsibility is Mandadi Venkat Reddy from Mukkududevalapalli in Atmakur (S) mandal.

Venkat Reddy has been working as a driver with Vijayawada STC Transport for the past 26 years. With his extensive driving experience, he first had the opportunity to drive the truck carrying the Khairatabad Ganesh idol during the immersion procession in 2017. He also served as the driver in 2020 and 2025, and has once again been given the responsibility in 2026. He will drive the truck carrying the Ganesh idol during Friday morning’s procession. Venkat Reddy said he considers the opportunity a blessing of Lord Ganesha and has so far completed the responsibility without facing any difficulties.
