US President Donald Trump has made key remarks on the Taiwan issue, calling it a complicated problem for the United States. He said that due to geographical distance, it is difficult for the US to respond quickly to developments in the region.
Trump noted that Taiwan is very close to China, while it is located thousands of kilometers away from the United States. He suggested that both China and Taiwan should exercise restraint amid rising tensions and stressed the need to avoid conflict and war.
He also stated that no final decision has yet been made on Taiwan’s independence or on arms sales related to the region. His comments have triggered fresh discussions on US–China relations, especially in the backdrop of recent remarks by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
