Two undertrial prisoners facing charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act have escaped from the high security Central Jail in Srinagar, triggering a major security concern. A police official confirmed that the two accused were lodged in the jail in separate POCSO cases and allegedly managed to evade security personnel before fleeing the prison premises. Following the escape, Jammu and Kashmir Police issued lookout notices and launched a large-scale search operation to trace and apprehend them.
The absconding accused have been identified as Mukhtar Ahmad Gujjar of Anantnag and Farman Khan of Rafiabad. Police have appealed to the public to provide any credible information that could help locate them and said an appropriate reward would be given for information leading to their arrest. People with information have been asked to contact the nearest police station or call emergency helpline 112. Further investigation is underway, while an internal inquiry has also been initiated to determine how the security breach occurred.
