US President Donald Trump has once again called for the immediate passage of the ‘SAVE America Act’, seeking stricter voter identification and citizenship requirements in American elections. Comparing the electoral systems of India and the United States, Trump said India’s election process should serve as an example. He highlighted that 646 million voters participated in India’s 2024 general elections and noted that every voter is required to have a valid photo identity document.
Trump also referred to recent remarks by India’s Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar regarding the conduct of elections in the United States. According to Trump, Kumar questioned how elections could be conducted in America without identification cards. Trump said less than one percent of voters in India’s 2024 elections voted by mail. By highlighting India’s electoral system, Trump is seeking to strengthen his argument for stricter election rules in the US and is urging lawmakers to pass the ‘SAVE America Act’ without delay.
