The Supreme Court heard a case related to the proposed flyover construction near KBR Park in the city. The apex court directed that no trees should be cut until the next hearing. It specifically ordered that trees within a 25–30 meter radius in the eco-sensitive zone of the park should not be felled.
During the hearing, petitioners’ counsel Vivek Reddy argued that around 1,300 trees are being cut in the park area for the project. The court questioned whether any alternative plan exists to construct the flyover without removing trees. The counsel replied that no such plan was available and alleged that the government itself is carrying out tree cutting even during day and night. Following the arguments, the Supreme Court issued notices to the state government and the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests and adjourned the case to July 27.
