The Central government is reportedly planning a major exercise to increase the number of Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies across the country by 50 percent. This move is part of a broader electoral reform initiative under consideration.
Along with the proposed seat expansion, the Centre is also planning to pass the Women’s Reservation Bill. A special session of Parliament is likely to be convened in June to push these key legislative proposals forward.
As part of efforts to build political consensus on delimitation and the women’s reservation issue, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has been entrusted with the responsibility of engaging various political parties.
