Singareni Collieries Company Limited has moved to acquire coal mines in other states as the Centre has not allocated new mines in Telangana for over a decade. The company has recently submitted a tender to participate in the auction of the ‘Tara’ coal mine in Chhattisgarh. The Union government has invited expressions of interest for coal block auctions across the country, and Singareni has also bid for the Manuguru OC-2 mine in Telangana. The auction process is expected to take place next month, with nearly 15 companies reportedly competing for the Tara mine.
Geological surveys indicate that the Tara mine holds approximately 293.9 million tonnes of coal reserves, which could significantly support thermal power plants in Telangana if secured. The mine is located about 110 km from Bhishrampur railway station, enabling coal transportation nationwide. Meanwhile, Singareni is optimistic about acquiring the Manuguru OC-2 mine due to limited competition. The company has also urged the Centre to directly allocate the Tadicherla-2 and Koyagudem mines, highlighting that increased coal production would strengthen energy security in the state.
