The Netherlands recorded 301,137 lightning strikes in a single day on Saturday. After days of intense heat, the weather suddenly changed, bringing heavy thunderstorms across the region. This marks the first time over 300,000 lightning strikes have been recorded within 24 hours. The previous week also saw 188,000 strikes in a single day.
Several houses were reportedly damaged due to fires caused by lightning. In just 30 minutes, around 30,000 strikes were recorded across the Netherlands and northern Germany, averaging about 17 strikes per second. Authorities have been alerted due to the extreme weather activity.
