Passengers travelling on several long-distance trains originating from Visakhapatnam are reportedly facing difficulties due to inadequate water supply in train toilets. The issue has been particularly noticeable on the Visakhapatnam–Mahabubnagar Superfast Express (12861). According to reports, passengers travelling on the train that departed Visakhapatnam on the 5th of this month noticed that several coaches had insufficient water even before the train crossed Anakapalle. With little or no water available for basic needs such as washing hands, passengers had to move between coaches in search of functioning taps. Women, elderly passengers and children were among those affected. Some passengers reportedly purchased bottled water at stations, while others contacted railway emergency services to find out where water would be available.
The reported problem has raised questions about water-refilling arrangements along the train’s route. Water is generally filled into the coaches at Visakhapatnam, and the supply is expected to last for a considerable distance. However, the train’s route via Ray anapadu bypass towards Kazipet, rather than Vijayawada, reportedly limits opportunities to replenish the supply at intermediate stations. Passengers have suggested that major stations such as Rajahmundry could be considered for refilling. There are also allegations that some staff members may be restricting water supply through coach valves to prevent complaints when the tanks run low. These claims require official verification. Passengers are urging railway authorities to investigate the recurring issue, ensure uninterrupted water supply and provide suitable refilling facilities during long journeys.
