Ooty Gets Ready for the Second Season

Ooty, one of the world’s popular tourist destinations, is gearing up for its second tourist season. Plants grown in flower pots at the Government Botanical Garden in the Nilgiris are now blooming beautifully, with marigold, dahlia, daisy and calendula flowers adding to the attraction. During the summer season in April and May, Ooty hosts flower shows and rose exhibitions, while the Sims Park in Coonoor also conducts fruit and flower exhibitions. Similarly, special flower shows are organised during the second season in September and October by the Horticulture Department to attract thousands of tourists from different parts of India and abroad.

As part of the preparations, more than four lakh flowering plants are being grown across the Botanical Garden, including areas near the entrance and Japan Park. A special floral arrangement spelling out “I Love Ooty” has been created at Japan Park using flowers of different colours. More than 35,000 flower pots are being used to grow plants for the second season, many of which are now in bloom. With the Dasara holidays approaching, horticulture officials expect tourist activity in the Nilgiris to increase significantly.
