The Government of Andhra Pradesh has strongly refuted rumours circulating on social media about the closure of Vijayawada’s Gannavaram International Airport, calling them completely false. In a fact-check statement posted on X, the government clarified that a new integrated terminal building, being constructed at an estimated cost of ₹611.80 crore to handle increasing passenger traffic, is nearing completion. The Airports Authority of India, along with the state government, is expediting efforts to inaugurate the facility soon.
The proposed Amaravati Greenfield Airport project has been described as a long-term strategic initiative. Planned over approximately 4,618 acres near Ravela village in Tadikonda mandal of Guntur district, the project aims to transform Amaravati into a global aviation hub and aircraft maintenance center. The government emphasized that even after the new airport becomes operational, Vijayawada Airport will continue its services. It also noted that having multiple airports in a region is common in major cities and urged the public not to believe misleading information.
