Farmers dependent on the Nagarjuna Sagar project are worried as flood inflows in the Krishna basin have declined sharply. The Jurala project gates have been closed, while inflows into the Srisailam project have also dropped significantly. The inflow, which had once reached around 2.5 lakh cusecs, has now fallen to nearly 36,000 cusecs.
The sharp decline in inflows has raised uncertainty over water availability for the Nagarjuna Sagar ayacut during the Kharif season. Farmers are concerned that water releases to the Sagar ayacut could be halted this year, creating uncertainty over cultivation and irrigation prospects.
