Bastar Artisans’ Craftsmanship Featured in Independence Day Invitation Kits

The invitation kits being sent to guests on behalf of President Droupadi Murmu for this year’s Independence Day celebrations have a special cultural touch. Prepared under the theme ‘Independence Day at Home’, the kits showcase India’s rich traditions and handicrafts. They feature the cultural heritage of Chhattisgarh, Goa, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Around 130 artisans contributed to the initiative, including nearly 50 artists from the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh.

The kits were designed under the supervision of Rashtrapati Bhavan officials and a team from the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Artisans used eco-friendly craft techniques while blending traditional art forms into the designs. NID Director Ashok Mandal said artisans and their teams worked for more than three months to complete the kits. The participation of Bastar artisans, a region once affected by Left-Wing Extremism, adds a significant dimension to the initiative by bringing their traditional craftsmanship to a national platform.
