Bangkok Flooded After Heavy Rains

Thailand is reeling under severe flooding following days of intense rainfall, with Bangkok among the worst-affected areas. The capital received around 320 mm of rain within three days, nearly equivalent to its usual rainfall for the entire month of September. Several low-lying parts of the city were inundated, disrupting daily life and transportation. Around 700,000 people in Bangkok were reported to have been affected, while flooding across Thailand had impacted multiple provinces.

The heavy flooding also disrupted operations at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, with flight delays, cancellations and significant baggage backlogs reported. Thai Airways faced difficulties maintaining normal services as flooding affected ground operations and staff availability. As of September 29, authorities reported that the nationwide death toll from the floods had risen to 23. While rainfall has eased and floodwaters are gradually receding in Bangkok, several areas remain waterlogged and recovery efforts are continuing.
