Another Water Dispute Erupts Between the Two States

Tensions have resurfaced between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana over the release of water from the Nagarjuna Sagar Project. Andhra Pradesh attempted to open the gates of the project’s right canal, but Telangana engineers stopped the move, stating that permission from the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) had not been granted. As an alternative, AP released 2,000 cusecs of water into the right canal through power generation.

Following AP’s release, Telangana also released 2,000 cusecs into the left canal. However, the KRMB had not issued formal orders authorising the release of water. AP’s attempt to release water before such orders were issued has once again triggered a dispute between the two states over the sharing and utilisation of Krishna river water.
