Yamaha Set to Re-Enter India’s Sports Bike Segment with 250cc–1000cc Models

Yamaha Motors is preparing to make a strong comeback in India’s sports bike segment, with plans to introduce motorcycles ranging from 250cc to 1000cc, according to Yamaha India Chairman Hajime Ota. The company recently launched the 200cc R2 in the domestic market and is also considering bringing models such as the Tenere 700, XSR900, MT-07, MT-09, R3, R7 and R9 to India.

Yamaha had showcased the R7 and Tenere 700 at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo last year. The Tenere 700 is expected to compete in the premium adventure bike segment, including against the Royal Enfield Himalayan 750. The motorcycle comes with a 689cc twin-cylinder engine and advanced features such as lean-sensitive traction control, slide control and YCC-T electronic throttle technology.
