The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued key directions to improve transparency in telecom services. Telecom operators have been directed to display recharge plans and tariff vouchers more clearly on their websites and mobile applications so that consumers can easily find them. The move follows complaints from subscribers that certain mandatory plans were not easily accessible while checking operators’ websites and apps.
Telecom service providers have been asked to create a dedicated section titled ‘TRAI-Mandated Packs’ on their mobile apps and websites and clearly list the vouchers mandated by the regulator. TRAI has also directed operators to keep the prepaid recharge section as the first tab and clearly display recharge plans at their offline points of sale. The regulator has also reiterated the availability of 30-day validity plan, special tariff and combo vouchers under its existing tariff framework.
