Electric vehicles (EVs) are gaining popularity as people look for ways to reduce fuel expenses and protect the environment. Bapatla District Collector Vinod Kumar reportedly travels from his camp office to the Collectorate on an electric scooter every Monday and is encouraging government officials, employees and the public to consider switching to electric mobility. More than 2,500 electric vehicles are already operating in the district, including scooters, motorcycles, autorickshaws and cars. New EV showrooms have opened in Bapatla, Chirala and Repalle, while charging stations are being established in towns and along national highways. Electric buses are also being introduced into public transport. However, experts advise buyers to carefully assess a vehicle's manufacturer, customer reviews, service network, spare-parts availability, warranty and documentation before making a purchase.
Battery quality, charging safety and actual driving range are among the most important factors to consider. Buyers should check the battery certification, warranty period, replacement cost and water- and dust-resistance rating, along with the manufacturer's claimed range under real-world conditions. Those travelling less than 50 kilometres a day may find many EV models practical, but longer journeys require careful planning around charging stations. At home, buyers should ensure proper electrical wiring, use the recommended charger and follow the manufacturer's charging instructions to reduce fire risks. Frequent highway users should consider long-range models suited to their travel needs. District Transport Officer Parandhama Reddy advised consumers to gather complete information before purchasing an EV and stated that the government has fully exempted electric vehicles from road tax to encourage adoption.
