

India’s leading automobile manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India has formally entered the domestic electric vehicle segment with the launch of its first battery electric vehicle, the e Vitara. The SUV is introduced under a Battery as a Service ownership model, with prices starting at Rs 10.99 lakh. The battery usage cost is fixed at Rs 3.99 per kilometre. Available with 61 kWh and 49 kWh battery pack options, the e Vitara offers a driving range of up to 543 kilometres on a single charge. Customers purchasing the vehicle in the initial phase will receive complimentary charging for one year at Maruti Suzuki dealer locations. The company is also offering a three year ownership plan with up to 60 percent assured buyback value.
In addition, buyers will receive a complimentary 7.4 kW AC wall box charger along with free installation. The introductory offer is valid until March 31, and bookings are open with a token amount of Rs 21,000. Senior Executive Officer Partho Banerjee stated that before launching the vehicle, the company focused on strengthening systems to address barriers in EV adoption, including public charging infrastructure and after sales service network, ensuring a seamless ownership experience.
