The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has dismissed several misconceptions regarding E20 ethanol-blended petrol. The government clarified that claims about engine damage, excessive water usage, poor mileage, warranty cancellation, and insect attraction are scientifically inaccurate. It stated that E20 has been developed based on extensive research, regulatory approvals, and global experience, with similar fuel blends already being used in several countries.
The ministry further highlighted that E20 contributes to reducing crude oil imports, lowering carbon emissions, saving foreign exchange, and increasing farmers' income through ethanol production. According to the government, India successfully achieved its 20% ethanol blending target ahead of schedule in December 2025, marking a significant milestone in the country's clean energy and fuel sustainability efforts.
