Freshworks has announced plans to lay off around 500 employees globally as part of an AI led restructuring strategy. In a letter to employees, CEO Dennis Woodside said the company is realigning its workforce to move faster in the AI era. Reports suggest that quality assurance professionals were among the most affected by the layoffs.
The decision has sparked anxiety across the tech industry, especially among software testing professionals. Many employees claimed that AI driven testing workflows are gradually replacing traditional QA roles. Some workers alleged that entire QA teams were removed, raising concerns about overdependence on AI for software testing and quality control.
The layoffs also triggered strong reactions on social media and Reddit, where users questioned whether companies are overestimating AI’s capabilities. Several professionals argued that AI still requires human supervision and cannot fully replace experienced testers. Freshworks, however, stated that the restructuring is aimed at strengthening growth in employee experience, customer experience, and AI driven services.
