Google has announced that it blocked or removed 4.83 billion advertisements in India in 2025 for violating its policies. The company also suspended 1.7 million advertiser accounts that failed to comply with guidelines. These actions were supported by its AI platform Gemini, which played a crucial role in identifying and preventing fraudulent and misleading advertisements. According to Google’s 2025 Ads Safety Report, these measures reflect a significant effort to maintain transparency and user safety in digital advertising.
Globally, Google removed over 8.3 billion harmful ads and suspended 24.9 million advertiser accounts in the same period. Notably, more than 99 percent of these ads were blocked before users could even see them. The company also reported a fourfold increase in action taken based on user complaints compared to 2024. In India, the primary reasons for ad removals included violations related to trademarks, financial services, copyright issues, personalization policies, and misuse of ad networks. These steps highlight Google’s intensified efforts to curb misuse of generative AI in creating deceptive advertisements.
