YouTube has big plans for its platform and creators in 2026. The streaming platform’s CEO, Neal Mohan, revealed on Wednesday that creators will soon be able to use AI to generate Shorts in their own likeness. While the executive did not share full details, the feature seems similar to OpenAI’s Sora app, where videos can be created using text prompts.
YouTube plans to introduce new AI powered capabilities this year. Mohan said, “This year you’ll be able to create a Short using your own likeness, produce games with a simple text prompt, and experiment with music.” While these features rely heavily on AI, which may concern some creators, Mohan assured, “AI will remain a tool for expression, not a replacement”.
In 2026, YouTube will also focus on the largest screens, especially TVs. Mohan added, “Fully customizable multiview and more than 10 specialized YouTube TV plans across sports, entertainment, and news will be launched, giving subscribers more control”. The company will expand the creator economy with new earning opportunities like shopping, brand deals, Jewels, and gifts alongside Super Chat. YouTube Shopping will also get an in-app checkout, allowing viewers to buy products without leaving the platform.
