YouTube has introduced a new AI-powered playlist generator for YouTube Premium and YouTube Music Premium subscribers on Android and iOS. The feature allows users to create customised playlists simply by describing a genre, mood, or theme they wish to listen to. Integrated into the Library tab of the YouTube Music app, users can tap the “New” button, select “AI Playlist,” and enter their request through text or voice prompts.
The tool supports a wide range of prompts, from general requests such as “indie pop” or “90s classic hits” to more specific ideas like a “progressive house mix for a chill party.” While Google has not detailed the level of manual control users will have over the generated playlists, the feature is designed to make music discovery faster and more personalised.
The rollout reflects the growing competition among streaming platforms to integrate artificial intelligence into their services. Spotify, Amazon Music, and Deezer have recently launched similar AI-driven discovery tools. The update also strengthens YouTube’s focus on Premium-exclusive features, as the company continues to enhance paid subscriptions. Google recently announced that it has reached 325 million paying subscribers across Google One and YouTube Premium services.
