US President Donald Trump has issued strict orders banning all federal agencies from using AI technology developed by the startup Anthropic. The move, aimed at preventing the use of Anthropic’s AI in military and sensitive government operations, has sparked global discussion. Trump clarified that federal agencies no longer need the technology and must end any business relations with the company.
The Pentagon has been given six months to remove Anthropic’s AI from military platforms, while other federal agencies were instructed to immediately stop its usage. The decision comes after a conflict between the Defense Department’s demand for unrestricted AI use for national security purposes and Anthropic’s refusal to allow its AI model Claude to be used autonomously in lethal systems or surveillance without human oversight.
Analysts suggest that rival AI systems, such as Elon Musk’s Grok, may benefit from this ban, as the Pentagon is considering integrating Grok into classified military networks. The controversy has drawn public support from Google and OpenAI employees, with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman backing Anthropic. The debate highlights the tension between national security demands and ethical AI usage, attracting worldwide attention.
